We have released another set of improvements to Central Desktop today. Release Notes are as follows:
Database Workflow Improvements
You can now set/add values of a database record based a set of triggers. Prior to today you were able to notify, and create tasks based on certain actions.
Examples Uses include:
- Automatically close Help Desk Tickets to status "Closed" if the last modified date is greater than X days from today.
- Assuming Records need to be updated/reviewed every X months, we can set a new Review Date when the record is modified or in a certain status.
CC or Notify Non Workspace Members of Comments on Database Records
Database Records now have a "cc List". You can put non Workspace Member email addresses into this area, anytime you make a comment you can selectively check "cc Non Workspace Members", they will receive an email with this comment (only the comment, all other information is stripped from the email). Replies from this email address will be logged in the appropriate CD record AND resyndicated to just Workspace Members subscribed to this record.
A good example use case for this is an externally facing Help Desk which takes tickets from the Web Capture Form, puts this ticket into a CD Database, the Help Desk operators (Workspace Members) can then manage/comment on the ticket with selective comments going to the creator of the ticket.
Used in conjunction with the Database Workflow Improvements above you can automatically set the CC List field value with the users email address that created the ticket (DB Record).
File Workflow Cloning
When cloning a Workspace that contains File Workflow, All Workflow is automatically cloned as well (This only applied to Database Workflow previously).
Reports to Field
For Company plans and higher we have added a system field called "Reports To". Here the user or the Company Administrator can update who the user reports to (Supervisor/Employee) relationship. Stay tuned for an upcoming feature that leverages this to build visually interactive relationships between users.
Performance
Furthermore we have released some additional performance improvements that should speed up page load time.
As usual, please post your feedback and comments below.
Thanks,
-The Central Desktop Team

The Workflow improvements are nice, but I hope these will be expanded in the near future.
I would like to see more available actions such as email to a non-workspace member when field X is set to a value of Y. Also having the ability to hide fields based on the value of field X would improve the look and ultimately the usability of our databases. I hope we have only seen the tip of the iceberg of CD Workflow improvements.
Currently, is there a way or any CD "code" I can easily add that will allow me to update field X with a date format (YYYY/MM) when field Y is set to a value of 1?
Keep up the nice work.

We will continue to improve our Workflow and appreciated the feedback.
There isn't a way to modify the Workflow code. Have you tried using the Action Rule Type to accomplish what you are trying to do?

I need to have the date set to current month. Will the Action Rule allow me to setup dynamic data in this way?

The current options you have to set a date are "None, Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow, Next Month". Can you use "Today"?

Please elaborate on the "reports to" field. Thanks!

The Reports To field is a field that is displayed in the Profile of a member. You can use it to show who a certain employee reports to at your company. The field is automatically generated with members within your account and can be accessed by going to Account > My Account > Profile.
